Editorial Standards
Mortgages are one of the biggest financial commitments most people make, so it matters where the information on this site comes from. This page sets out what we publish, where it comes from, what we deliberately don't claim, and how to tell us when something is wrong.
What this site is
Mortgage Brokers List is a directory of UK companies in mortgage and related financial services, with free calculators and guides. We are not a broker, a lender or a financial adviser, we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, and nothing here is a personal recommendation.
Where our information comes from
- Company names, addresses, classification codes and incorporation dates: the Companies House Free Company Data Product, under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
- Broker profiles (phone, website, services, FCA reference or network): the firm's own website. We only publish a profile when that website shows the company's Companies House number, so the details are matched to the right company.
- House prices on town pages: the UK House Price Index (HM Land Registry, Registers of Scotland, Land & Property Services Northern Ireland and the Office for National Statistics), under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
- Tax figures: GOV.UK guidance for Stamp Duty Land Tax and Lifetime ISAs.
- Lending rules: the FCA Handbook (MCOB) and the Bank of England.
Pages that rely on policy figures show the date they were last checked.
Who gets listed
Only firms with evidence that they arrange mortgages: their own website mentions mortgage services (identity matched by the Companies House number shown on it), or their registered name contains "mortgage", "home loans" or "equity release" and they have filed accounts. Each listing says which kind of evidence it has. A Companies House classification code alone is never enough, because the same codes are used by insurance agents, payment firms and many other businesses.
What we leave out
Everything without evidence of mortgage work, including dormant companies, holding and investment companies, and firms whose website or name shows a different business such as insurance or payments. Town pages with fewer than three listed firms stay available to visitors but are marked so search engines don't index them.
What we don't do
- We don't verify whether a firm is currently authorised by the FCA. Every listing links to the FCA's own register so you can check.
- We don't recommend any broker, lender or product, and firms can't pay to be listed or ranked.
- We don't publish reviews.
- We don't copy other directories. Their listings belong to them.
